Tucson Receives Government Grant to Promote Sustainability

According to the City of Tucson Conservation and Sustainable Development department, Tucson will be granted $5.1 million by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under its Energy and Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG). These funds, which can be used throughout the entire Tucson community, will be put towards projects and programs that utilize the most up-to-date energy technologies.
The money from the grant will fund energy efficiency home retrofits. This process will help save energy within Tucson homes. Next, money will be utilized for transportation efficiency programs. Once in effect, these programs will reduce pollution emitted by cars, also resulting in improved public health.

Finally, the City will use the grant’s resources to enhance public education programs on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction. This will help to create jobs as well as educate youth on how to live an environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
