Tucson Outdoor Activities
Tucson is such a great town for getting out and doing something. The summer months are hot under the summer sun, but while much of the country is hibernating under warm coats and blankets, the residents in this town are enjoying Tucson outdoor activities in weather that tends to stay pretty outdoors-friendly all year long.
Here are a few of the fun things you will find to do in Tucson:
- Hiking. What better way is there to get out and see nature than to hit the trails and go on your own pace? With five mountain ranges surrounding the city of Tucson, you have plenty of options of ways to get into the great outdoors, and you never have to hit the same trail twice (unless you happen to fall in love with the sunset over a particular peak). If you are someone that likes a tough hike that offers challenges throughout the journey, Finger Rock Trail might be the perfect fit for you. If your main reason for hiking is to find stunning views, you might want to consider heading up Ventana Canyon Trail.
- Horseback Riding. The Wild West would not have been quite as wild without having horses around. Horseback riding options are plentiful around Tucson, and it doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced rider or you’ve never been in the presence of a horse before, the experienced professionals at the area’s stables can help you find your perfect fit. Pantano Riding Stables offers trail rides that are perfect for beginners that range from thirty minutes to two hours. Looking for something more fulfilling? You can ride through Sagauro National Park for a few hours or just head up for a beautiful sunset sight.
- Golf. A list of Tucson outdoor activities wouldn’t be complete without talking about tee times. The Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club offers two courses designed by Tom Fazio, both of which tend to be named on the country’s top lists over and over again. Each course is challenging while offering the beautiful desert views of the surrounding landscape. While these courses are available to non-members, you might find that you’ll enjoy the benefits of membership here as much as your neighbors do.
- Caves. This is one of the Tucson outdoor activities that takes adventure underground. Two parks, Colossal Cave Mountain Park and Kartchner Caverns State Park, are available if you’re looking for ways to explore the world below the Earth’s surface. Each of these cave sites has received great reviews from those who have visited them, so you can’t really go wrong!
- Hot Springs. This is one of the best Tucson outdoor activities because the only thing that is required of you is that you lay back, enjoy nature’s gift, and relax. In Tucson, you’re a lucky resident of one of the few places in the United States that has natural hot springs in their backyard. In just a couple hours’ drive, you can find yourself in Safford, AZ, where four different hot springs options await you. The hot springs at Roper Lake State Park are lined with the area’s natural rocks while the mineral baths at Kachina Hot Springs are tiled. The pools run between about 96 and 108 degrees Fahrenheit, which varies from facility to facility, and this naturally heated mineral water is known to be relaxing and restorative.
Around town, the Tucson outdoor activities that are available for tourists and residents alike are diverse enough to keep you entertained throughout the year, no matter what you’re in the mood for! Check out Visit Tucson for more information about Tucson outdoor activities!
