Preparing for your Weekend Vacation to Mexico
Your home within The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Tucson provides you with every luxury an extravagant vacation could offer. However sometimes you still need to get out of town for a weekend get-away. Driving to Mexico has been a popular choice for Tucson residents looking for a quick but adventurous vacation. There has been some recent news regarding international travel that you should be aware of so that you can make your vacation as carefree as possible.
Beginning Monday, June 1, 2009, federal rules require anyone entering the United States to show a passport or other approved document. Meaning that after your sunny weekend in Cabo San Lucas (or wherever the mood takes you), you will need your passport in order to re-enter the country.
According to the Associated Press, these new rules were created for land and sea ports under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. Initially they were to have gone into effect in 2008. However, plans were delayed more than a year due to concerns about businesses that rely on international trade.
Don’t worry. In the beginning, border officials will still wave you through as long as you have some form of legitimate identification that verifies your American citizenship. The new requirements will not be strictly enforced until later this year. So, at some point, you will need to pull yourself away from The Ritz-Carlton golf club at The Residences at Dove Mountain long enough to ensure you have a current passport, passport card or enhanced driver’s license. That way you can avoid holding up the line while traveling across the border.
Some folks may still have concerns about the swine flu when considering traveling to Mexico. The flu did have its first major outbreak in Mexico City. However, the initial worry that the h2N1 virus was a major global flu pandemic has lessened since public health officials reported the strain as being more similar to seasonal influenza.
Traveling to different countries is exhilarating and eye-opening. It gives you a chance to see, hear and taste new things from various cultures. Planning and preparation is key when initially mapping out your itinerary. As with any vacation, take the necessary precautions when traveling to Mexico to ensure your safety through out your entire trip.
So now that you are prepared with all the knowledge needed to travel to Mexico, have fun and safe travels!
