Skiing in southern Arizona is possible thanks to Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley. Located Northeast of Tucson off of the Catalina Highway just before the village of Summerhaven, the Santa Catalina Ranger District is home to the southernmost ski area in the United States, which is perched near the 9,157-foot summit of Mt. Lemmon. The runs are usually open from December to April depending on the weather and the amount of snowfall.
Mission San Xavier del Bac
If you want to feel a little bit of old history and culture, then you need to check out Mission San Xavier del Bac, which was established in 1692 even before the city of Tucson came into existence. Known as the “White Dove of the Desert,” it is the oldest intact European structure in Arizona; a place where visitors can truly step back in time and enter an authentic 18th Century space. The mission also has a museum as well as a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring and maintaining the beauty of this amazing structure.
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a natural history museum that also has over 20 acres of land for a zoo and botanical park. Main attractions include an aquarium, hummingbird aviary, reptile exhibits, mammal exhibits, and observatories to marvel at the wide variety of plant life.
