DETAILS: Dove Mountain, about 20 miles northwest of Tucson, Arizona, in the high Sonoran Desert, is a 6,200 –acre golf community that opened in 1998 and now has about 3,000 residences, with another 2,500 planned, and two courses. Next week the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship will be held at one of those courses for the second consecutive year, and in 2009 the event is scheduled to be moved to a new golf club with Jack Nicklaus-designed courses that will be part of this Ritz-Carlton branded project. When completed, it will be the largest Ritz-Carlton development in the continental United States, occupying 850 acres of the community. The resort's main four-story building, made of adobe, stucco, clay tile and local stone, will have 226 rooms and suites. Nearby will be two dozen more hotel rooms in casitas. For The Residences at The Ritz Carlton, Dove Mountain, there will be 300 custom-designed houses and 20 homesites for buyers who want to build their own home. Of those, 91 houses and 16 sites are available in the first phase. The house designs, which range from two to four bedrooms, all feature terraces with whirlpools; options include swimming pools and separate casitas to be used as guest houses, studios or offices. There will be three restaurants at the resort, as well as a 17,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, a swimming pool complex and tennis courts. The first 27 holes of the Nicklaus golf courses are planned to be completed late this year, with 9 more holes expected in 2010. Along with the courses will be a clubhouse that will offer dining areas, a practice facility, more pools and other amenities. There are 20 miles of hiking trails within Dove Mountain itself, and the community. Which sirs at the base of the Tortolita Mountains, is bordered by thousands of acres of protected land.
